Salé – A total of 390 inmates convicted of extremism and terrorism have benefited from the “Moussalaha” (Reconciliation) program since its launch in 2017, stated Ahmed Abbadi, Secretary General of the Rabita Mohammadia of the Ulema, on Friday at the local prison of Salé.

In a statement to the press on the occasion of the closing of the 17th edition of the “Moussalaha” program, Abbadi affirmed that this rehabilitation program was of a great success, noting that this edition benefited 26 inmates convicted in cases related to extremism and terrorism.

He highlighted the three core pillars of the program, namely reconciliation with oneself, reconciliation with the religious text, and reconciliation with society, including its laws, legislations, and institutions.

For his part, Abdelouahed Jamali Idrissi, the coordinator of the Mohammed VI Foundation for the Reintegration of Prisoners, underscored the advantages of this program, which targets a specific category through a diversity of contributors and a unique approach.

This program, he noted, is based on a flexible approach to addressing terrorism and violence, prioritizing dialogue, the renunciation of violent discourse, and reconciliation with oneself and the religious text.

Meanwhile, Hicham Mellati, Director of Criminal Affairs, Pardons, and Crime Detection at the Ministry of Justice, indicated that the “Moussalaha” reconciliation program, which expands the range of possibilities for release, constitutes a significant milestone in penal policy. It offers new perspectives as part of incentive-based measures aimed at giving beneficiaries a chance to regain freedom and reintegrate into society.

The conferences organized under this program also aim to introduce beneficiaries to the legal framework, both nationally and internationally, related to crime and terrorism, he explained.

The closing ceremony, held in the presence of Mohamed Salah Tamek, Delegate General for Prison Administration and Rehabilitation, as well as representatives of institutional partners, experts, and trainers involved in the program, featured the screening of a video showcasing the results of this edition, with testimonials from participating inmates, as well as artistic and cultural performances by inmates.
